Google’s Android 15 Update is Bricking Pixel 6 Phones—Should You Hold Off?
Google’s latest Android 15 update is supposed to bring fresh features and improvements to Pixel devices, but for some Pixel 6 owners, it's become a major headache. Users are reporting that the update is bricking their phones, rendering them completely unusable—an issue that's becoming increasingly hard to ignore.
Pixel 6 Bricking After Android 15
The Android 15 rollout started last week, but instead of excitement, Pixel 6 users are facing frustration. Several have shared on Reddit that their phones have become "bricked," meaning they're completely non-functional, and no standard troubleshooting methods are working. Worse, the problem seems random, leaving users anxious about when—or if—it could happen to them.

For some users, the trouble began after enabling Android 15’s new Private Space feature. One Pixel 6 owner reported their phone died immediately after opening an app in Private Space, while others experienced bricking during everyday use, making the issue difficult to trace. Typical recovery attempts, like holding down buttons or connecting to a computer, have been fruitless.
Private Space Feature Linked to Bricking
The new Private Space feature, which acts as a separate user profile, appears to be at least part of the problem. However, it's not just people using this feature who are affected—others reported bricking with no connection to Private Space. The randomness of it all is only adding to the confusion and worry for Pixel 6 users.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the Pixel 6 has faced problems with software updates. Last year, the Android 14 update locked users out of their storage, and earlier this year, some devices failed to restart after factory resets.
Google’s Silence on the Issue
As of now, Google hasn’t officially commented on the bricking problem. Given the rising number of reports, users are expecting a response soon. And it’s not just Pixel 6 owners—Pixel 8 Pro users are also experiencing issues with the back gesture following the Android 15 update.
Should You Update Your Pixel 6?
With the risk of bricking, it’s best for Pixel 6 users to hold off on updating to Android 15 until Google addresses the issue. The unpredictable nature of the problem and lack of a fix means caution is your safest bet for now. No one wants to deal with a bricked phone, especially when there’s no clear way to bring it back to life.
