You Can’t Buy These iPhones From Apple Anymore After the iPhone 18 Pro Launch

Apple has refreshed its iPhone lineup following the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro series, and that means a couple of familiar models have officially disappeared from its shelves.

Starting today, you can no longer buy the iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max directly from Apple in India. Both phones have been removed from Apple's online store, with the newly announced iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max taking their place at the top of the lineup.

That part isn't particularly surprising. Apple routinely discontinues the previous-generation Pro models when a new Pro lineup arrives. What's much more unusual this year is what has happened to the older iPhones that Apple has decided to keep selling.

Instead of getting cheaper after the iPhone 18 Pro launch, the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, and even the two-year-old iPhone 16 have become considerably more expensive in India.

iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are officially gone from Apple's store

If you were planning to pick up an iPhone 17 Pro directly from Apple after the iPhone 18 Pro launch, that option is now off the table.

Apple has removed both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max from its official lineup in India. Their replacements, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, start at ₹1,64,900 and ₹1,79,900, respectively, with 256GB of storage. Pre-orders begin on September 12, while sales start on September 18.

However, discontinued doesn't mean the iPhone 17 Pro series has vanished completely. Third-party retailers and Apple Authorised Resellers can continue selling their existing inventory, so you should still be able to find both models for some time. In fact, with festive sales approaching, the iPhone 17 Pro could potentially become much more interesting if retailers start clearing their remaining stock. That said, going by how the iPhone 17 has seen an increase in its price one year after launch, I won't be shocked if the Pro models also see an absurd jump in price.

Apple's current official lineup now includes the iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro series, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, and iPhone 16.

The iPhones Apple kept are now much more expensive

Normally, a new iPhone launch is good news if you've been waiting to buy an older model. The new phones arrive, the previous models move down the lineup, and prices usually become a little easier to stomach. That isn't what happened this time.

The iPhone 17 with 256GB storage has jumped from ₹82,900 to ₹99,900, making it ₹17,000 more expensive. The iPhone 17e 256GB has gone from ₹64,900 to ₹79,900, an increase of ₹15,000.

The biggest surprise of the three, though, is the iPhone 16. Apple was previously selling the 128GB model for ₹69,900, but it is now listed at ₹89,900. That's a massive ₹20,000 increase for an iPhone that originally launched back in 2024.

So Apple's post-launch reshuffle is a little different this year. The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are gone from Apple's store, while several of the older iPhones that remain have actually become more expensive.

Of course, Apple's official prices aren't necessarily what you'll have to pay everywhere. Older stock of the iPhone 16, iPhone 17 series, and discontinued Pro models is still available through third-party retailers, where discounts and upcoming festive-sale offers could make them considerably cheaper.

If anything, that makes checking Amazon, Flipkart, and authorised retailers even more important before buying an older iPhone directly from Apple right now.
