Apple’s Foldable iPhone Might Finally Arrive in 2026 with No Face ID, a Crease-Free Display, and a Hefty Price
Apple has been quietly working on a foldable iPhone for years, and now, new details from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo give us a clearer picture of what to expect.
While foldable phones are nothing new, Apple's approach looks to be a mix of cutting-edge design, AI-driven software, and a premium price tag.

A Foldable iPhone with a Book-Style Design
Unlike the clamshell-style foldables from Samsung and Motorola, Apple is reportedly going for a book-style design, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold. The inner screen is expected to measure 7.8 inches, while the outer display will be 5.5 inches. Apple is also aiming for a crease-free experience, solving one of the biggest complaints about current foldables.
The phone's hinge and frame will be made from a mix of stainless steel and titanium, using advanced 3D printing techniques. This should help keep the device slim and durable, a must for any foldable.
No Face ID, Side-Mounted Touch ID Instead
Apple seems to be ditching Face ID on this model, opting instead for a side-mounted Touch ID sensor. This change is likely due to thickness constraints-Face ID's sensor array would make the phone bulkier. While some users might miss Face ID, a fingerprint scanner could be a more practical choice for a foldable design.
Camera, Battery, and AI Features
The foldable iPhone is expected to have a dual-lens rear camera setup and a front-facing camera for both folded and unfolded use. On the battery front, it will reportedly use high-density battery cells, similar to what Apple is planning for the iPhone 17.
Apple is also integrating new AI-powered features, including cross-app functionality and a built-in AI chatbot that runs in the background. This suggests Apple is making AI a bigger part of its ecosystem, similar to what's happening with Google and Samsung.
Launch Timeline and Pricing
Apple is expected to finalize the foldable iPhone's specs by mid-2025, with mass production starting in late 2026. The phone will likely launch at the end of 2026, with an initial production run of 3 to 5 million units.
As for pricing? Expect a premium tag between $2,000 and $2,500. A second-gen model is rumored for 2027, with higher production numbers and possibly a lower price.
