Apple Foldable iPhone Reportedly Launching in 2026: Here’s How Much It Could Cost
Apple is reportedly developing a foldable iPhone, with a potential release in 2026. Although the company has not officially confirmed this, various reports indicate that the development process is progressing well. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple aims to launch the device in the latter half of the year, possibly alongside the iPhone 18 series.
The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a book-style design, akin to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7. This design would include a large inner display that unfolds like a tablet and a smaller cover screen for everyday use. The anticipated price is around $2,000, approximately Rs 1.72 lakh in India.

Design and Specifications
Rumours suggest that Apple's foldable iPhone will have a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. When open, it may measure just 4.5mm thick and about 9mm when folded, making it one of the slimmest foldable phones available. Additionally, it might incorporate a new dual-camera lens system at the rear and possibly a Meta Lens front camera.
Apple's approach to new product categories often involves waiting for technology to mature before entering the market. This strategy allows Apple to improve upon existing technologies developed by competitors like Samsung and other Android brands. Reports indicate that Apple aims to address common issues such as screen creases and hinge durability by experimenting with an advanced hinge mechanism and thinner materials.
Software Enhancements
The software for Apple's foldable iPhone is also expected to undergo changes. It is reported that iOS 27 will be designed with the foldable form factor in mind, offering a different user experience compared to traditional bar-style iPhones. Features like multitasking and potential Apple Pencil support are being considered to take advantage of the larger screen.
China is being targeted as one of the primary markets for Apple's foldable phone due to rising demand for such devices in the region. However, it remains uncertain if the first-generation model will be widely available globally at launch.
The foldable iPhone may also see changes in its biometric security features. It could be among the first iPhones in years to replace FaceID with a side-mounted TouchID sensor, potentially saving space while maintaining its slim design. While these developments are promising, nothing has been officially confirmed by Apple yet. If everything proceeds as planned, this could become one of Apple's most intriguing products in recent years.
