Apple iPhone 16 Series Launch Today: Likely To Use Arm’s New Chip Technology

Apple is all set for the iPhone 16 series launch, which is expected to be unveiled with the A18 chip. A new report suggests that the processor will use Arm's V9 technology for AI.

The A18 chip has been developed using SoftBank-owned Arm's newest V9 chip design, as per a new report. Apple signed a deal with Arm last September that extends beyond 2040. This agreement boosts Arm's position in chip technology.

In July, Arm revealed that its V9 chip accounts for 50 per cent of smartphone revenue. Arm owns the intellectual property behind the computing architecture for most of the world's smartphones, which it licenses to Apple and many others.

Apple uses Arm's technology to design its custom chips for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. The collaboration between these two companies has been crucial in developing efficient and powerful devices.

The launch event of the iPhone 16 series will take place today (September 9) at 10 am Pacific Time (10:30 pm IST). The company is expected to introduce four different models - the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

While the non-pro variants could feature the A18 chip, the pro models are rumoured to use the A18 Pro SoC. The next-gen iPhones will also have Apple Intelligence; however, users might have to wait for a few months for a full experience, which is tipped to be introduced with a future iOS 18.1 software update. Other features of the iPhone 16 series will likely include upgraded cameras, larger displays, and batteries.

Apart from the iPhones, the Cupertino-based tech behemoth is likely to announce the AirPods 4, Apple Watch Series 10, and release dates for its upcoming software updates at the "It's Glowtime" launch event.
