Apple Will Discontinue These iPhones After the iPhone 16 Series Launch in September
Apple is set to discontinue several older iPhone models following the launch of its iPhone 16 Series, expected at the company's "It's Glowtime" event on September 9, 2024. This decision is part of Apple's ongoing strategy, which it has followed for the last six years, of retiring older flagship models when new ones are introduced.
Apple's Consistent Discontinuation Strategy
Since 2018, Apple has routinely phased out previous-generation iPhones after launching new models. Following the debut of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, it's anticipated that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which were introduced in 2023, will be discontinued.

In addition to these, older models like the iPhone 14 Plus and the iPhone 13, launched in 2021, are also likely to be removed from Apple's product lineup. However, the standard iPhone 15 models (iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus) are expected to remain available for consumers.

iPhone 13's End of the Line
Among the four models released under the iPhone 13 series, only the standard iPhone 13 is still on sale. It is expected to be discontinued following the event. If this happens, we could see a potential price drop for the iPhone 14, making it a more affordable option for buyers looking for a mid-range Apple device.
Impact on Affordable iPhone Options
With the discontinuation of these models, there will be fewer affordable iPhones in the market. While some speculate that other Apple products, such as AirPods or Apple Watches, may also be phased out, the removal of iPhones will likely have the most significant effect on consumers seeking cost-effective alternatives.

This approach allows Apple to maintain focus on its latest offerings and prioritize higher-end devices in its lineup.
Expected iPhone 16 Pricing in India
According to recent reports, the iPhone 16 base variant is expected to start at $799 (around ₹67,100) in the U.S., while the iPhone 16 Plus may launch at $899 (approximately ₹75,500). Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro, featuring 256GB storage, could be priced at $1,099 (around ₹92,300). The flagship iPhone 16 Pro Max, with the same storage capacity, is expected to cost $1,199 (approximately ₹1,00,700).
However, as with previous iPhone releases, Indian consumers can expect higher prices due to local taxes and duties. For example, the iPhone 15 Pro was launched at ₹1,34,900 in India, while the Pro Max was priced at ₹1,59,900-significantly higher than U.S. prices. A similar pattern is likely for the iPhone 16 series.
Ongoing Trend of Model Retirement
Apple's decision to discontinue older models is not new. It is part of a broader strategy the company employs to ensure that newer devices, equipped with the latest technology and features, dominate the market. This trend, set to continue after the September 9 event, ensures that Apple's product lineup remains fresh and focused on high-end consumers.
While other products might be affected by these changes, the phasing out of older iPhones will likely be the most significant development for consumers, especially those seeking budget-friendly options.
