Drug Kingpin Pablo Escobar’s Brother Launches Foldable Smartphone; Plans To Take On Apple

The world knows Pablo Escobar's family for their involvement with the Colombian drug cartel. However, some of them chose a legitimate route to do business. For all we know, the next foldable smartphone comes from Pablo Escobar's brother. That's right. Roberto Escobar, brother of the infamous Colombian drug lord has released Escobar Fold 1.

This isn't the first time brother Escobar is trying his hand in tech gadgets. Earlier this year, he had launched a flamethrower, inspired by Elon Musk's viral ‘Not a Flamethrower'. Now, he's working on the ‘Escobar Fold 1' foldable smartphone which aims to take on Samsung and other foldable smartphones in the market.

Escobar Fold 1 To Take On Apple

The design of the Escobar Fold 1 is similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Fold. There's a flexible screen, which unfolds into a tablet. However, Roberto Escobar says that he's actually after Apple with the new gadget and not Samsung. He acknowledges that he will take on Apple single-handedly. That's not all. Roberto Escobar is also planning to file a class-action lawsuit against Apple in 2020.

"I have told many people that I would beat Apple and I will. I cut the networks and retailers, to sell to customers phones that can fold for only $349, phones which in stores cost thousands of dollars by Samsung and others," the famed drug lord's brother told Digital Trends.

Escobar Fold 1 Features

Going into the features, the Escobar Fold 1 runs Android 9 backed by an octa-core 2.8Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series CPU. The foldable smartphone features a dual-camera setup with 16MP and 20MP sensors. The smartphone has a 7.8-inch AMOLED full HD+ screen when folded. Escobar says that the foldable smartphone will ship unlocked and will be compatible with all networks worldwide. There are two SIM card slots.

The Escobar Fold 1 comes in two variants with 128GB priced $350 (approximately Rs. 25,100). The higher variant packs 512GB priced at $500 (approximately Rs. 35,800). Comparatively, the prices for the foldable technology is priced drastically cheaper. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X are priced Rs. 1,64,999 and Rs. 1,86,300 respectively.

The Escobar Fold 1 is made of "special plastic" notes the founder. According to Escobar, the foldable smartphone is harder to break and is tougher than Samsung Galaxy Fold. He was quoted saying that the phone is made of a special type of plastic and is very difficult to break.
