Google Admits to Scrapping Second Pixel Fold Model That Was In The Works
Those who had pre-ordered the Pixel Fold are waiting with bated breath for the foldable smartphone to arrive in about another month. Now, in a recent podcast, Google has revealed that there was a second foldable smartphone in the works that the company scrapped before it could be launched.
In the latest episode of the Made by Google Podcast, where the most recent Google products are discussed, the company admitted to there being a second Pixel Fold model that never really saw the light of day.

Second Pixel Fold Didn't Make the Cut
In the latest episode, the speakers included podcast host Rachid Finge and three members of Google's design team. These were Ivy Ross (Vice President and Head of Design for Google Hardware Products), Isabelle Olsson (Head of Industrial Design for Home, Wearables, and CMF), and Claude Zellweger (Director of Design).
The crux of the conversation was about the make, build and design of the three latest products in Google's lineup, Pixel 7a, the Pixel Fold, and the Pixel Tablet.
While speaking about the Pixel Fold, and its hinge design, Ivy Ross said, "I'm really proud of the team because there was another foldable model that we had created, that we had the discipline to hold back and say "nope, it's not good enough yet," and really wait until we felt like we could do something that was good enough or better than what was out there already. So, it's really a testimony to the fact that we're able to do that and recognize when something isn't good enough."
Was This The Pixel Flip?
Not much else was revealed about this scrapped model. However, many wondered if this may have been the Pixel Flip.
The rumours are based on hints dropped on there being a possibility of a Pixel Flip. During an interview at Google I/O 2023 with Google Pixel Product Manager George Hwang, he answered that the company is interested in exploring different form factors and technologies, including the flip-style design.
The latest revelation about the scrapped foldable phone does hint at Google's efforts to innovate and bring forth new technologies and designs to the smartphone market.
