Google Pixel Fold officially announced ahead of upcoming Google I/O 2023 event

After a ton of rumours and leaks, Google has officially announced its first ever foldable smartphone is coming to Google I/O. The Google Pixel Fold has officially been teased on the Google Store.

According to the teaser, the Pixel Fold release date is set for Google I/O 2023 on May 10. While Google doesn't reveal any specifications of the Pixel Fold, the video uploaded to the site gives us an in-depth look at the device's design and its folding mechanism.

Google Pixel Fold Confirmed

As previously suspected, the Pixel Fold will feature the same folding and unfolding mechanism as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. You can also see the triple-camera setup on the back of the Pixel Fold, which is aligned like the setup on the Google Pixel 7 Pro. We can also see the stock Android 13 operating system on the device.

The aspect ratio of the outer display of the Pixel Fold also appears to be wider than traditional foldable phones. We can also see the Pixel Fold's glass back panel and aluminium frame. However, the dimensions of the Pixel Fold appear to be closer to those of the Oppo Find N2 and Microsoft Surface Duo.

Google Pixel Fold Specifications (Expected)

The Google Pixel Fold is also expected to be powered by the Tensor G2 SoC used on the Pixel 7 series. The external display on the Pixel Fold is expected to measure 5.8 inches in size, while the internal screen will measure 7.6 inches when unfolded. Both OLED screens will sport a 120Hz refresh rate.

The Pixel Fold is expected to pack a 4,500 mAh battery with 23W fast charging support, although there is no mention of wireless charging. The phone will run on stock Android 13, we can imagine with quite a few modifications to improve the foldable experience.

For the cameras, the Pixel Fold will feature a triple-camera setup on the back with a 48 MP primary sensor with OIS support, a 10.8 MP ultrawide shooter, and a 10.8 MP telephoto lens. The inner display will feature an 8 MP selfie camera, while the cover screen will opt for a 9.5 MP camera sensor.

Google Pixel Fold Launch Date

The Pixel Fold price and specifications will be revealed at Google I/O 2023. However, rumours suggests that the Google Pixel Fold price will start from $1,700 (roughly Rs 1,38,900). Additionally, reports also suggests that the Pixel Fold launch in India may not be in the cards.
