Google I/O 2023 Unveils Exciting New Features for Android 14
While AI was clearly the focus of Google's I/O keynote, the company also unveiled some details about the next version of Android: Android 14. Set to launch later this year, Google revealed a range of new features during the keynote presentation.
Let's dive in.

Generative AI Wallpapers Are Coming to Android
One of the new features that Google is introducing with Android 14 is the ability to create unique wallpapers using generative AI. This means that users will be able to select a theme they want their wallpaper to be based on, and the AI will generate a unique wallpaper for them.

In addition, there will be a prompt at the bottom of each wallpaper that can be edited for further customization, with several options available to swipe through. This feature will bring the power of generative AI to Android devices, expanding Google's AI capabilities even further.
Emoji and Cinematic Wallpapers Are Coming Too
In addition to the generative AI wallpaper feature, Android 14 will also offer new wallpaper options for users. One of these options is the emoji wallpaper feature, which allows users to select up to fourteen different emoji and choose from various patterns and color schemes to create a unique wallpaper for their home and lock screens. The emoji wallpapers are interactive, with the chosen emoji reacting to touches.

The cinematic wallpaper feature is another fresh choice, letting users turn any photo in their photo library into a 3D animation. Users can use these 3D backdrops to create a parallax effect in their photos by tilting their devices and tapping the sparkle icon button.
Lock Screen Is Getting More Customizable
During Google's I/O keynote, it was revealed that Android 14 will introduce a boost in customizability to the lock screen. The developer preview had already hinted at this, and now users will have the ability to add a personalized clock to their lock screen.
They can choose the font, color, size, and design of the clock, and even rearrange the other data on the lock screen, such as the current weather conditions and date.

New lock screen shortcuts also are coming to Android 14 to make it easier to access frequently used apps and features without unlocking the phone, such as the torch and the QR code scanner. As an added bonus, Google has announced the availability of a monochrome theming option, which was discovered in earlier betas.
Google's Find My Service Takes a Page from Apple
Google is following Apple's lead with its Find My service, which uses the global network of iPhones to locate lost devices. In a similar fashion, Android 14 will leverage the vast network of Android devices worldwide to help users locate any lost device or accessory.

Additionally, if you have any third-party trackers such as Tile on other items, you can track them through the Find My feature as well.
As the development of Android 14 continues and new betas are released, it is likely that Google will add even more features, so stay tuned for updates.
