Biggest Announcements From Google I/O 2023: Annual Developer Conference Reveals New AI, Hardware
Google I/O is one of the most anticipated annual conferences as it is packed with the latest developments in software and hardware. Besides the latest Pixel smartphones such as the Pixel Fold, and the tablet, Google had a lot to offer in terms of Generative AI.
Microsoft may have had a lead over Google initially but the latter has now revised its strategy. The search giant claims it has infused Bard, ChatGPT's main competitor, into nearly every service and device it offers. Let's look at the biggest announcements made at the Google I/O 2023.

Hardware Announcements At Google I/O 2023
Google announced its first folding phone, the Pixel Fold. It is surprisingly thinner than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold4.
Having learned from its competitors, the Pixel Fold has a wide, external display that offers a normal smartphone experience. The internal 7.6-inch OLED screen is intended for watching movies, multitasking, or reading. The Google Pixel Fold costs a startling $1,799 (₹1,47,500) but preorders get a Pixel Watch for free.
Alongside the Pixel Fold, there's a Pixel 7a, a supposedly affordable Pixel smartphone. However, this year's model costs $499 (₹41,000), which is costlier than the Pixel 6a.
The Pixel 7a does get a 90Hz screen refresh rate, wireless charging support, and 64MP primary rear camera. Preorders for the latest Pixel smartphone get a free case and a $100 (₹8,200) coupon for another Google-branded accessory.
Google also launched the Pixel Tablet, which was announced last year. It is powered by Google's latest Tensor G2 chipset. While attached to a dock, the Google tablet can recharge.
For $499 buyers get a sleek device that does not have a stylus or a keyboard. It does benefit from more than 50 Google apps optimized for the larger screen.
Software Announcements At Google I/O 2023
Google's primary focus at this year's event was AI (Artificial Intelligence) and Android 14. The search giant announced the latest iteration of its Android operating system that drives millions of devices around the world.
Google claims Android 14 has several new enhancements to boost privacy. However, the search giant has essentially infused a lot of AI-based tools, functions, and features into the latest version of the operating system.
Google's Bard Generative AI is now integrated directly into Android messaging. Users can ask Bard AI questions right in the chat box and adjust the syntax of their messages to adapt to different tones.
As previously indicated, Google is actively rolling out AI into its Workspace apps like Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Google is calling it Duet AI for Workspace and it can use Google's generative AI to create diverse content such as job descriptions and creative stories.
Bard AI can auto-generate spreadsheets for tracking information, and even build whole presentations. It can subtly suggest text for slides or instantly generate custom visual elements like photos.
Some of the other notable developments include the Magic Eraser photo-editing feature, which is now called Magic Editor. It is a powerful AI-based tool that will allow users to change nearly every element of a photo.
Google promises the Magic Editor can adjust lighting, remove unwanted foreground elements like backpack straps, and even move the subject of the photo into other parts of the frame. Last, but certainly not least, Android Auto will now support video, gaming, and browsing in cars.
