Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold to Be the First Foldable Smartphone with IP68 Rating: Report
Google is expected to launch the Pixel 10 series at its Made by Google event in August. Although the brand has not officially confirmed the launch date, reports suggest that it could take place on August 20.
The lineup will likely include four models: the standard Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Now, fresh details have emerged, shedding light on what to expect from the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Pixel 10 Pro Fold - What to Expect?
According to a new report by Android Headlines, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to be the first foldable smartphone to launch with an IP68 rating. In comparison, Samsung's current foldables only offer IP48 protection, although the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 is also rumoured to feature an IP68 rating.
Most foldables on the market do not offer full dust resistance-only Samsung and Motorola have partial protection with IP48 ratings. The "6" in IP68 indicates complete protection against dust, making the device fully dust-tight, while the "8" signifies water resistance, meaning the phone can be submerged in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes.
The same publication revealed renders of the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold back in March, highlighting a key design upgrade - a new, slimmer hinge. This redesigned hinge not only improves in-hand comfort but also contributes to a thinner overall profile for the foldable.
Thanks to this more compact hinge design, Google has managed to increase the size of the outer display while keeping the overall dimensions similar to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. By reducing the hinge size and extending the bezels, the cover screen is expected to grow from 6.3 inches to 6.4 inches.
In addition to the Pixel 10 series smartphones, Google is expected to unveil the Pixel Watch 4 during the same event. We expect the company will soon start teasing the arrival of the next-gen Pixel phones.
