Honor is known for starting many trends by being the first to bring high end features to low end and mid-range space. For instance, it was amongst the first few smartphone companies that brought fingerprint scanner in to action. Though many followed the trend, Honor smartphones garnered good user reviews for the snappier performance of fingerprint scanner on its phones.

For instance, Honor 5X could register up to five fingerprints to let users keep different finger impression codes to unlock the device. The noteworthy feature in Honor 5X was that it could let user assign the five fingerprints to certain apps and tasks, to offer quick app launch and better user experience.

It is really important to have a responsive and quick fingerprint scanning technology, for this makes a lot of difference in the overall user experience. Another key point of the fingerprint scanner is its placement. The performance of a finger recognition pad depends significantly on how it has been placed. Honor understands users need very well, and design its phone to be simple and user friendly.

Similarly, the Honor 7 was one highly powerful smartphone that packed in best of the features for its class. There was a time when fingerprint scanner was mostly found in premium smartphone, but China-based Huawei started implementing fingerprint scanner to its handsets priced compellingly. The brand changed the whole specs game for smartphones in mid-range and low range segment.

Now the company is all set to take the market by stride with the launch on its upcoming smartphone on June 22. The yet to be announced smartphone is expected to come with high-performance 16 nm processor with an all-new Kirin 650 chipset. The CPU will change the specs game once again for smartphone in Honor's upcoming smartphone's price range.

The Kirin 650 chipset has flagship FinFET Plus 16 nm chip technology that promises lightning-fast performance compared with previous-generation 28 nm chipsets. Flagship big.LITTLE architecture delivers best of both worlds, in terms of performance and efficiency. It has quad 2.0 GHz high-performance cores ('big') and quad 1.7 GHz lower-performances, which deliver 65% increase in processing speed and 40% decrease in power consumption.

So essentially, the Kirin 650 CPU is highly battery efficient, increases speed by multifolds, and provides an all-round solution to lagging, slowness, and heat build-up. The Kirin 650 also comes with silicon-chip level protection. There is a dedicated security module within the silicon chip that ensures user security, handling key information like fingerprints, keypad, and voice.

The CPU is paired with Mali-T830 GPU to ensure seamless gaming experience with 100% increase in GPU performance compared with previous-generation Kirin 620. If that is not enough, it also features eMMC 5.1-based flash memory chip. The new phone will run EMUI 4.1 OS based on Android.

The Kirin 650 will ensure that the Honor's upcoming smartphone offers much better and smoother performance than its competitors. Considering that among mid-range silicon chips, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 650 and 652 processors continue to use 28 nm technology, while MediaTek's processors range from 20 to 28 nm, the Kirin 650 with 16nm chip has an edge over them all.

The Kirin 650 employs 16 nm FinFET Plus technology, making it two generations ahead of the competition due to its greatly improved performance and reduced power consumption.

With such a powerful chipset on board, Honor will once again become the driver of innovation in smartphone technology in its segment.
