HTC smartphone with Android Oreo, Snapdragon 625 spotted on Geekbench
HTC is expected to launch the smartphone in March after the MWC 2018.
HTC seems to be working on a mid-range smartphone. We say so as tipster Roland Quandt has spotted a new HTC handset carrying the model number 2Q5W1 on Geekbench. At the moment, there is no information on what the smartphone may be called. However, the benchmarking website has revealed of the key specifications of the smartphone. As per the benchmark listing, the smartphone will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor.
The Snapdragon 625 is quite an energy efficient chipset that is found on several smartphones, including the Moto Z Play, Moto G5 Plus, Moto G5S Plus, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi Mi 5X, BlackBerry KEYone etc. The new HTC phone also features Adreno 506 GPU for graphics. As far as the memory aspect is concerned, the device offers 3GB of RAM, further confirming that this will be a mid-range model.
Another significant piece of information revealed by the Geekbench listing is that the upcoming HTC smartphone will run on Android 8.0 Oreo OS right out of the box. Unfortunately, the remaining specs of the device remain a mystery as of now. On the Geekbench, the smartphone scored 770 in the single-core test, and 3893 in the multi-core test.
One of HTC's officials recently confirmed that the company won't be launching a flagship smartphone at MWC 2018. which is taking place in Barcelona later this month. While the Taiwanese manufacturer may introduce this mid-range model at the upcoming MWC, chances of that happening are low. Recent reports suggest HTC won't launch any new smartphones in February.
Furthermore, the company previously said that it would focus more on mid-range segment this year. Last month, the HTC U11 EYEs was launched at CNY 3,299 (approximately Rs. 32,500) as a stripped-down version of the flagship U11.
The key highlights of smartphone are its front dual cameras and the larger than usual 3,930mAh battery. Interestingly, with the launch of U11 EYEs, HTC again entered the dual camera smartphone market. The smartphone also comes with the trending 18:9 aspect ratio and a large 6-inch display.
Unfortunately though, the company has not announced when will the U11 EYEs be available in other markets.
