HTC won't launch its next flagship at MWC
Earlier this month, we came across an alleged render of HTC's next flagship U12.
Several smartphone manufacturers are expected to announce their new flagships at the MWC 2018, but HTC is not one of them. According to a report by Android Headlines, the Taiwanese company will not unveil its next flagship U12 at MWC next month. Instead, there will be separate event later where the successor to last year's U11 will be launched. The publication claims to have obtained this information from an "inside source".
HTC is reportedly planning to hold a standalone event after MWC 2018 to unveil the next member of its flagship U lineup of smartphones. The company has presumably taken this decision to avoid being overshadowed by Korean tech giant Samsung which has confirmed to launch the Galaxy S9 duo of February 25, a day before the commencement of MWC. The source, however, did not reveal the reason.
While the publication has not given any exact timeline, it is likely that the upcoming HTC flagship will be unveiled either in March or April. If you recall, last year, the company had launched its U11 smartphone in May.
Even the name of the next flagship is not conformed yet, but the successor of U11 should be called U12. So far, the smartphone has not appeared in a lot of leaks. That said, we came across an alleged render of the HTC U12 earlier this month. As per the render, the smartphone will look quite similar to its predecessor in terms of design.
The render further reveled that it will feature a full-screen display with the aspect ratio of 18:9. Needless to say, the display will be surrounded with narrow bezels. Also, the U12 is likely to come with a rear mounted fingerprint scanner.
When it comes to the specifications, the HTC U12 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's latest and most powerful processor Snapdragon 845. The smartphone is speculated to feature at least 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage space. It should also be equipped with a dual camera setup at the back. On the software front, the handset is likely to run on Android Oreo operating system right out of the box.
While this is all we know at this moment, more details about the U11 is expected to emerge online in the coming days.
