One of the major factors in buying a smartphone these days is the battery life. Since this is a major demand, many smartphone manufacturers have indeed shifted their focus to offering better battery-equipped devices. Apart from the battery itself, some have even introduced new charging technologies such as fast charge, wireless charging and as well as quick charging technologies to further help users get the max out of the devices.

Huawei's new quick charge technology offers 10 times faster charging

We already know about OnePlus and its dash charge technology and now it seems Huawei is also working on bringing a similar type of charging feature to its devices. As such, Huawei has now published a video on its official YouTube channel stating the same.

According to the video (posted below) Huawei Watt Lab, which belongs to the Central Research Institute at Huawei Technology Corporation Limited has developed a new quick charging lithium-ion batteries the powers up 10 times faster than conventional batteries. In fact, the company demonstrates that 48 percent of battery capacity is achieved in just 5 minutes of charge.

Huawei has revealed that the company bonded heteroatoms to the molecule of graphite in an anode, which could be a catalyst for the capture and transmission of lithium through carbon bonds. Huawei stated that the heteroatoms increase the charging speed of batteries without decreasing energy density or battery life.

Interestingly, in the new video, the person who gives the demonstration doesn't charge the battery inside the phone. The battery is taken out and charged in an external device. However, with this, we have gone into a speculation mode as to whether removable batteries will make a comeback or not.

That aside, Huawei in the video has also stated that the new technology manages to achieve 'high charging efficiency' without sacrificing battery life. Huawei believes that with the demand for quick charging technology to satisfy power-hungry applications, this major breakthrough is expected to be widely used in smartphones, mobile power supply, computer and electrical vehicles.

But this might not be the first time that the company has talked about such feature for its smartphones. Previously in 2015, Huawei had revealed the technology but since it is talking about it again we could see something at upcoming Huawei events.

Besides, Huawei might be hyping or hinting at something for MWC that will be happening next month in Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Huawei's Watt Lab works closely with industry partners to promote technological development and pursue a new energy era. Watt Lab specifically focuses on the technical development of energy storage to support a better-connected world via sufficient energy.
