iOS 19 Leak Hints at visionOS-Inspired Redesign Ahead of WWDC 2025
Apple has officially announced the dates for WWDC 2025, which will run from June 9 to June 13, and with it comes the annual ritual of speculation, leaks, and design mockups. As expected, iOS 19 will be one of the major announcements, and early reports suggest that this year's update could bring a noticeable shift in how iPhones look and feel.
While Apple hasn't confirmed any design specifics yet, leaks from reliable sources point toward a visionOS-inspired redesign, blending elements of the Apple Vision Pro interface into the iPhone experience.
What Is "Spatial Design," and Why Does It Matter?
One of the most consistent design threads in these leaks is the adoption of a "Spatial Design" approach. According to YouTuber Jon Prosser, who shared mockups based on footage he claims to have seen, iOS 19 could borrow visual elements directly from visionOS-the operating system that powers Apple's mixed reality headset.
That means rounded icons, subtle glassy effects, and a more layered, depth-oriented UI. Think soft shadows, reflective surfaces, and menus that feel like they're floating slightly off the screen, rather than sitting flat against it.
Even the keyboard is expected to get a makeover, appearing more detached from the base UI, creating a lightweight, hovering effect that's closer to what we've seen in Vision Pro interactions than traditional smartphone UIs.
A Redesigned Camera App in the Works?
Alongside interface tweaks, Apple is also reportedly working on a refreshed Camera app for iOS 19. The redesign could include a new toggle system to switch between photo and video modes, with an expandable menu accessed through a downward arrow.
This expanded toggle may offer quick access to advanced tools like Depth, Spatial, Pano, and Style, while a set of floating buttons across the top could allow users to adjust Live Photos, Flash, Resolution, and Frame Rate settings without diving into nested menus.
These changes, if accurate, would mark a meaningful improvement in accessibility for photography features-a longtime request from power users who've found Apple's Camera interface increasingly crowded.
Not Everyone's Convinced Yet
While mockups and leaks are already making rounds online, not everyone is sold on how much of this will actually show up in the final release. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has weighed in, suggesting that the designs currently floating around are based on "very old builds" and likely miss key elements Apple plans to reveal in June.
Gurman confirmed that Apple is indeed working on a new interface for both iOS 19 and macOS 16, and that these will likely represent some of the most significant visual updates in recent years. However, he stopped short of backing all the mockup details, implying that the public leaks might only be scratching the surface.
