iPhone 17e Reportedly Launching Next Year with Same Display as iPhone 16e
Apple’s most affordable iPhone may now be getting an annual refresh. A new report from South Korea's THE ELEC suggests that the iPhone 17e, the likely successor to the iPhone 16e launched earlier this year, is scheduled for release next spring—a shift from Apple’s previous approach to the SE line, which saw longer gaps between models.
While the “e” series has effectively replaced the SE branding, its place in Apple’s product strategy continues to evolve. The latest leak provides a few early details about what’s (not) changing, especially around the display.

Same Screen, New Cycle?
The report notes that the iPhone 17e will use the same display panel as the 16e, suggesting that there may not be any major visual redesign or size upgrade. The 16e, launched in February, came with a modernized front but didn’t aim to match flagship specs—keeping things simple and cost-efficient.
This re-use of the display likely means Apple is focusing its updates elsewhere: processor bump, battery tweaks, or perhaps camera improvements. It also supports the idea that the “e” series will offer iterative updates, rather than sweeping overhauls—something Apple often reserves for its mainline iPhones in September.
BOE Continues to Lead Display Supply
According to the report, BOE, Samsung Display, and LG Display will once again supply panels for the iPhone 17e, just as they did for the 16e. Among the three, BOE is said to be the dominant supplier, holding the largest share of Apple’s orders for this series.
What Could Change in the 17e?
While the display stays the same, Apple may upgrade:
- Chipset – possibly moving to a more recent A-series chip
- Camera system – improvements without redesigning the module
- Battery or charging – modest boosts without major spec changes
- Software features – enabling AI or on-device Siri improvements tied to newer chips
Still, until more details surface, the iPhone 17e seems poised to be a mild update, targeted at buyers who just want an affordable iPhone with current software support and modern design cues.
