iQOO 16 Confirmed with World's First 2K 165Hz AMOLED Display: Samsung M16 Panel, 5000Hz Touch Sampling, More

After officially revealing the design of the upcoming iQOO 16 last week, iQOO has now confirmed one of its biggest upgrades. At the Samsung Display × iQOO screen technology event, the company announced that the iQOO 16 will feature the world's first 2K display with a 165Hz refresh rate.

The flagship smartphone will use Samsung's new 2K LEAD 2.0 display technology, which has been jointly developed by Samsung Display and iQOO.

iQOO 16 Display: Samsung M16 Material and LEAD 2.0 Technology

The partnership between iQOO and Samsung goes beyond the display panel itself. The iQOO 16 will use Samsung's latest M16 luminescent material, making it the first Android smartphone to feature the new material.

The phone will also feature a custom high-refresh-rate display IC and a dedicated production line designed specifically for iQOO's flagship smartphones.

In terms of colour reproduction, iQOO claims the panel offers 1.24 times P3 colour gamut coverage along with individual screen calibration. According to the company, colour uniformity has improved by 39.6%, while brightness uniformity is up by 22.3% compared to the previous generation.

Sub-Pixel Calibration and Improved Brightness

iQOO is also using its own colour and brightness compensation algorithm to calibrate the display at a sub-pixel level. The company claims the panel can achieve colour accuracy of ±0.001, although real-world testing will reveal how the display performs outside controlled conditions.

The iQOO 16 display is also claimed to offer a 100% first-frame brightness ratio, which the company says is the highest in the industry.

Built for Gaming With 5000Hz Touch Sampling

Gaming appears to be a major focus for the iQOO 16. The smartphone will feature a new touch chip capable of 5000Hz instantaneous touch sampling and 500Hz multi-finger touch sampling.

It will also include iQOO's Q-flex control technology, designed to reduce input latency between a user's touch and the corresponding on-screen action.

The iQOO 16 builds on the display technology introduced with its predecessor and could set a new benchmark for gaming smartphones with its combination of a 2K resolution and 165Hz refresh rate.

With its design and display specifications now officially confirmed, iQOO is expected to reveal more details about the iQOO 16, including its chipset, cameras and battery, ahead of its official launch.
