Latest Google Pixel 8 Leak Reveals Major Camera Upgrades

The Google Pixel 8 will be unveiled in October, and camera details of the smartphone have already leaked ahead of the launch. The latest report indicates that the device will feature significant upgrades in terms of sensors.

Google Pixel 8 Series: Rumored Camera Details

According to an Android Authority report, both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will sport new primary camera sensors. The Pixel 8 series will now feature a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor, replacing the GN1 sensor on the older models.

The larger sensor size is expected to capture 35% more light than the ISOCELL GN1 sensor, allowing for better low-light images. It will also reduce blur, owing to its faster shutter speeds.

Moving on to the ultrawide camera, the Pixel 8 Pro will get a major upgrade with a 64MP Sony IMX787, ditching the older model's 12MP IMX386 ultrawide sensor. The lens will feature a 0.49x zoom ratio, an upgrade over the Pixel 7 Pro's zoom ratio of 0.56x.

Additionally, the report states that Google may disable the macro mode on the Pixel 8 Pro. As for the Pixel 8, the smartphone will get an upgrade in the form of a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor with a 0.55x zoom ratio, which is wider than the Pixel 7's 0.67x zoom ratio.

Just like its predecessor, the Pixel 8 will not feature a telephoto camera. As for the Pixel 8 Pro, don't expect an upgrade there, since it will reportedly inherit the Pixel 7 Pro's 48MP Samsung GN5 sensor which has a 5x zoom ratio.

Both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will sport an 11MP Samsung 3J1 camera sensor at the front, just like its predecessors.

The report adds that the Pixel 8 Pro will feature an upgraded Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor for autofocus. It will also get a new FIR thermometer sensor to measure body temperature and "high-precision non-contact temperature."

The Pixel 8 series will reportedly feature "Segmentation AWB," which segments a scene using AI and processes each part differently. The smartphone may also get a video bokeh blur level selection.
