‘Make In India' Hub To Churn Out 30% Mobiles By 2025: Report
Almost all smartphone companies are setting up their manufacturing plants in Noida/ Greater Noida as a part of the "Make in India" initiative. Now, it has been reported that the region will produce 30 percent of all mobile phones in the country by 2025. At present, Noida has more than 80 mobile manufacturing units, employing over 50,000 people. These units include the assembling of smartphone components, adapters, chargers, and earphones.
"Noida is envisioned to become a global hub for mobile phone and components manufacturing. We estimate that out of the targeted $190 billion value production and 100 crore volume of phones to be produced by 2025, 30 percent of mobile phones will be manufactured in Noida, which is over $57 billion productions of just phones, a 4x increase from the present numbers," ICEA, Chairman Pankaj Mahindroo was quoted by IANS.
He also claims that in the next 4 to 5 years, the component and the sub-assembly industry is expected to be $20-25 billion.
In fact, Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has recently shared with Gizbot that it will start two more assembly units, by the end of this year in India.
"We have three facilities in Greater Noida, however, one is fully operational. The rest two will be operational by the end of this year," Oppo, GM Factory, Sanjay Goel, informed us earlier. Besides, the company is planning to double its manufacturing capacity by 2020 from the current four million devices in a month. Oppo is also set to invest more in its Research & Development unit in Hyderabad.
On the other hand, Vivo is likely to invest Rs. 7,500 crore to increase its production capabilities in India. Also, the company will create over 40,000 jobs in the market for over 10 years. In addition, Vivo plans to set up its R&D center in India, the company's director of brand strategy Nipun Marya told Gizbot earlier. For the unaware, Apple has also started manufacturing its iPhones in India.
