MediaTek Dimensity 7050 Announced, Set to Debut With Lava Agni 2 5G

MediaTek has announced the launch of the Dimensity 7050, a 5G chipset for budget smartphones. The company said the chip is designed to deliver exceptional gaming and camera capabilities while maximizing battery life and 5G connectivity. The Dimensity 7050 will debut on the upcoming Lava Agni 2 5G, a first for an Indian smartphone brand, with others following suit.

The Dimensity 7050 comes with MediaTek HyperEngine that enhances gaming. It has an integrated 5G HSR mode that actively searches and connects to the nearest cell tower with the lowest latency to minimize the ping while gaming.

The chip, designed to boost gaming, has an advanced networking engine with call and data concurrency which allows gamers to continue enjoying 5G speeds keeping gaming uninterrupted even while accepting a call on the second SIM.

The Dimesity 7050 is built on a 6nm process, and features an octa-core CPU with two ARM Cortex A78 cores clocked at 2.6 GHz along with four ARM Cortex A55 cores clocked at 2 GHz. It has an ARM Mali-G68 GPU.

The chipset features MediaTek's Imagiq ISP, with support for 200 MP camera systems. There is a dedicated 4K HDR video capture engine, along with a MediaTek APU 550 for AI processing. The specs, in fact, seem the same as the Dimensity 1080 launched earlier.

The chipset comes with MediaTek MiraVision Display and video enhancements, bringing support for FHD+ displays with 120Hz refresh rates, featuring MediaTek Intelligent Refresh Rate Display technology.

There's also support for WiFi 6 with 2x2 MIMO for faster broadband speeds, along with Bluetooth 5 and GNSS.

Lastly, the Dimensity 7050 supports Dual 5G in standalone mode and supports VoNR voice and video call services from both SIM cards.

Lava Agni 2 5G to Get First Dibs

The Lava Agni 2 5G is confirmed to be the first to be powered by the new chipset. Rumors state the smartphone could be priced under Rs 25,000 in India and feature a 120Hz AMOLED display, along with an OIS-assisted 50MP primary camera and a 16MP selfie shooter. The smartphone is expected to come with a 5,000mAh battery with support for 44W fast charging.
