MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Launched With Improved Gaming Performance and Power Efficiency

MediaTek has announced a new entrant in the mid-range Dimensity 7000 series. Dubbed the MediaTek Dimensity 7200, the SoC is made on a 4nm TSMC process, which brings performance improvements that result in better gaming performance and improved imaging. The chipset will be available on smartphones from the first quarter of this year.
MediaTek Dimensity 7200: What's New?
The MediaTek Dimensity 7200 is placed right below the Dimensity 8000 series. The mid-range chipset is likely to power 5G smartphones in the affordable segment. It shares the same 4nm manufacturing process as the flagship Dimensity 9200.
The company claims the chipset will enable ultra-slim smartphone designs in a variety of form factors. It comes with MediaTek's HyperEngine 5.0 API that delivers AI-based VRS that improves power efficiency while gaming. There are also algorithms in place for CPU and GPU smart-resource optimization.
The chipset comes equipped with an octa-core architecture with two ARM Cortex A715 cores clocked at 2.8GHz for high performance and six ARM Cortex A510 cores with peak frequencies unknown. For graphics, the chipset comes with a Mali G610 MC4 GPU. However, the company clairified that he Dimensity 7200 can only support 32-bit apps because of fewer CPU cores. The chipset supports LPDDR4 and LPDDR5 memory, along with UFS 3.1 flash storage.
The CPU specs indicate that it isn't too big of a performance jump, but thanks to the more advanced manufacturing process, the chipset is far more power efficient. The Dimensity 7200 will come with an APU 650 machine learning chipset for AI tasks and a sub-6GHz 5G modem with 3GPP Release 16 certification with a peak 4.7Gbps downlink.
To improve 5G performance, the Dimensity 7200 comes with MediaTek UltraSave 2.0 technology suite for cellular power efficiency. The chipset supports 2CC carrier aggregation and Dual 5G SIM with dual VoNR.
The Dimensity 7200 can support up to 144Hz refresh rates at Full HD+ resolution. It also has an AI-based variable rate shading that improves game frame rates, Bluetooth 5.3, and WiFi 6E support.
As for imaging, the Dimensity 7200 smartphones can support up to 200MP cameras with 4K video simultaneous dual capture with motion-compensated noise reduction in low light. The MediaTek Imagiq 765 ISP can also do 14-bit HDR video and real-time portrait beautification.
