Your Next Affordable Flagship Might Run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500e or 8500
With this year’s major flagship launches in China nearly wrapped up, attention is already shifting to what comes next. The next wave of smartphones isn’t about breaking price records — it’s about redefining value. And leading that charge could be MediaTek, which is reportedly preparing two new chips: the Dimensity 9500e and Dimensity 8500.
Both are shaping up to power what many call “sub-flagships” — phones that look and feel premium but cost much less than top-tier devices.

MediaTek’s Timing Couldn’t Be Better
The report comes from well-known Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, who claims that the first phones using these new chips will arrive early next year — likely in January 2026.
That timing isn’t accidental. Qualcomm’s next big chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, is expected to dominate the late-2025 flagships. Once those phones hit the shelves, MediaTek’s new processors will follow soon after, bringing down similar performance levels to a wider range of devices.
Dimensity 9500e: Small Size, Big Ambition
At the top of the lineup is the Dimensity 9500e, a high-end processor built on TSMC’s 3nm N3E node, the same advanced process used for the latest flagship chips.
Leaked details suggest a CPU layout featuring one ultra-core Cortex-X925, three performance Cortex-X4s, and four efficient Cortex-A720s — all running up to 3.73GHz. Paired with an Arm G925 MP12 GPU clocked at over 1.6GHz, it’s clear MediaTek isn’t holding back here.
In practical terms, that means phones with the 9500e could handle serious gaming, multitasking, and AI tasks while staying efficient. It’s the kind of chip that could easily end up inside premium-tier models from brands like Vivo, iQOO, or Oppo, offering close-to-flagship power without the flagship price tag.
Dimensity 8500: Built for Power and Price Balance
If the 9500e aims for performance, the Dimensity 8500 is designed for balance. It’s built on TSMC’s 4nm process and features eight high-performance cores based on ARM’s new A725 architecture — meaning no small efficiency cores at all.
The prime core reportedly hits 3.4GHz, while the Mali-G720 GPU runs at around 1.5GHz — enough for smooth visuals in most modern games and apps.
Early benchmark leaks point to an AnTuTu score near 2.2 million, which puts it comfortably in the “premium mid-range” territory.
