Micromax Bharat Go with Android Oreo (Go Edition) to launch in India later this month
Micromax Bharat Go is said to cost as low as Rs. 2,000.
As it was speculated earlier, Micromax has confirmed that it will launch an Android Go smartphone in India. Dubbed as Bharat Go, it is claimed to be first smartphone in India to feature the Android Oreo (Go Edition). While the company has not yet revealed the exact date, the Micromax Bharat Go will go on sale by the end of this month. As far as the specifications are concerned, it will be an entry-level smartphone.
In case you are wondering, Google had recently launched the Android Oreo (Go Edition) aka Android Go operating system for budget smartphones. The OS allows smartphones with memory between 512MB and 1GB, to enjoy the feature of Oreo (though watered-down version of Android Oreo). Android Go is kind of similar to Google's Android One program that aims to bring improvements in the ecosystem of the budget smartphones.
Basically, Android Oreo (Go Edition) is the optimized version of Android Oreo so it can run smoothly on entry-level of smartphones. It comes with a new suite of applications including Play, Gboard, Chrome, Google Go, Google Assistant for Android Oreo (Go edition), YouTube Go, Gmail Go, Google Maps Go, and Files Go. All the aforementioned apps use less memory, storage space, and mobile data to function.
Coming to back to the upcoming Bharat Go, Micromax is yet to reveal the specifications and price of the smartphone. As stated before, it is expected to be a budget smartphone with entry-level specifications. An earlier report had claimed that the Micromax Bharat Go will be priced at Rs. 2,000. However, we are not sure whether this piece of information is accurate or not.
The Android Go platform was launched to enable first-time smartphone users in the emerging markets to get a better quality Android experience. Not only Micromax, Google has joined hands with some other Indian smartphone manufacturers such as Intex, Karbonn, Lava as well. Even Lava is expected to launch an Android Go smartphone in India this month. However, it looks like the Bharat Go will be the first Android Go smartphone in India.
Home-grown phone maker Micromax mainly focuses on the budget segment of the smartphones. Last month, it launched the Canvas Infinity Pro and Bharat 5 smartphones at Rs. 13,999 and Rs. 5,555. Also, the Bharat 5 Plus smartphone was spotted on the company's official website.
