Micromax YU5 with SD 625 and 2GB RAM spotted on Geekbench
Micromax’s sub-brand YU appears to be working on a smartphone with an octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC.
Micromax appears to be working on a new mid-range smartphone, suggests a fresh leak. This speculation has emerged online as a device codenamed Micromax YU5 was spotted on the Geekbench benchmarking website. From the name, it looks like this device will belong to the company's sub-brand YU. The latest YU smartphone is the Yu Yureka 2 launched in September 2017.
Spotted by MySmartPrice, the Geekbench listing of Micromax reveals a few key specifications of the smartphone such as its RAM and chipset details. The device is seen to employ a Qualcomm MSM8953 SoC, which is the Snapdragon 625. This chipset is seen to be teamed up with 2GB RAM and run Android 8.1 Oreo.
The YU5 appears to have scored 771 and 3823 points in the single-core and multi-core tests respectively. The benchmark listing suggests that the processor is clocked at 1.8GHz speed. This clock speed is relatively lower than the typical speed of 2GHz of the Snapdragon 625 processor.
YU5 Speculations
For now, the details regarding the upcoming smartphone from domestic manufacturer's stable. However, YU5 is believed to be an internal codename of the device so the final moniker could be different. What's interesting is that the device uses the Snapdragon 625 SoC. This is an octa-core processor using eight cores of Cortex A53 clocked at 2GHz. Given that the benchmark listing shows a slower clock speed, we can expect it to be throttled for the testing purposes.
The Snapdragon 625 SoC is built using the 14nm process. This and the Cortex A53 cores combine enabling the YU5 to render an above average battery life. We can expect it to have at least a 3000mAh battery.
It is quite rare for smartphones from brands such as YU to run the latest OS. If this turns out to be true, then the manufacturer could be aiming to prove that it can utilize high-end specifications in its smartphones to compete with the other bestsellers in the market. From the leaked benchmark listing, the Snapdragon 625 processor and 2GB of RAM make a decent smartphone package but 3GB of RAM would be appreciable. Besides the specs, the company has to focus on pricing this device right to make it a good buy.
