Nokia 1 Android Go smartphone hands-on images leak; MWC 2018 launch expected
HMD Global is likely prepping to launch an Android Go smartphone called Nokia 1 that could be the most affordable one coming from the company. Previously, we came across reports tipping that the Nokia 1 could be announced sometime in March this year.
Now, recent reports citing a post made by a Baidu user via GSMArena have given us a look at what is believed to be the Nokia 1. The Baidu post shows a couple of hands-on images of the alleged Nokia 1 smartphone. The images show that the device appears to flaunt a metal frame and a polycarbonate body taking us back to the glorious days of Nokia.
In one of these leaked images, the Nokia 1 seems to be placed in a case. The other image shows the actual device. There seems to be a camera sensor along with the LED flash positioned vertically at the rear. The Nokia 1 is likely to arrive with an HD 720p display of unknown size. Under its hood, HMD's Android Go smartphone is speculated to make use of a Snapdragon 212 chipset along with 1GB RAM and 16GB default memory capacity. Notably, this is the same processor used by the Nokia 2 as well.
The Nokia 1 is claimed to run Android Go based on Android Oreo. The lighter version of the Oreo OS has been launched by Google with an aim to let the entry-level and low-end devices with 1GB or lesser RAM to get the latest iteration of Android. Smartphones those will be launched with Android Go will also be bundled with Android Go apps those will be lighter than the original applications such as Play Store, Gmail, Maps, Google, YouTube, etc.
We can expect the Nokia 1 to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 tech show in February. The MWC announcement makes sense as the Android Go based Nokia 1 is believed to be released in March. The smartphone is likely to be priced around $100 (approx. Rs. 6,000) making it the most affordable one to be launched by HMD so far. However, we are yet to get an official confirmation from HMD Global regarding this smartphone.
