Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8 Sirocco India launch pegged for April 4
Next batch of Nokia smartphones those were unveiled at the MWC 2018 tech show are all set to be launched in India next week.
HMD Global, the licencee with the rights to manufacture Nokia branded smartphones has sent out media invites for an event to be hosted in India on April 4. From the invite, we get to know that the launch event is slated to happen in New Delhi from 11:30 AM onwards. While the company has not revealed anything about the devices to be launched at the event next week, we can expect the MWC 2018 launches to be there.
Already, HMD released the Nokia 1 Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone quietly in India at a price point of Rs. 5,499. Previously, there were reports that the Nokia smartphones those were unveiled at the MWC will arrive in India in April. So, we can expect the smartphones such as Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018), and Nokia 8 Sirocco and the Nokia 8110 4G feature phone to come to India in the next week.
The invite comes with the tagline, "We welcome you to discover the N-powered city of tomorrow" and this indicates at the launch of the next set of Nokia-branded devices in the country. There is a cryptic message as well reading, "We welcome you to Explore. Express. Create. Reimagine", revealing that there could be hints at photography and story-telling.
Notably, all the Nokia smartphones expected to be launched in India next week are based on Android One program. This platform will allow for faster and secure updates at a timely basis. HMD Global has a good track record of rolling out software updates to its smartphones and assured two years of OS support in the last year for the first batch of smartphones. As these phones run Android One, the updates will be rolled out directly by Google.
Of the Nokia smartphones expected to be launched in India on April 4, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is the company's latest flagship smartphone. It is the sequel to the yesteryear flagship smartphone - the Nokia 8. The Nokia 8110 4G feature phone supports VoLTE and is a slider phone. This one will definitely be a stiff rival to the Reliance JioPhone and other such 4G enabled feature phones in the country.
