Nokia 8 starts getting Android 8.1 Oreo beta update
Here are the new features that the Nokia 8 will get with the Android 8.1 Oreo beta update.
Nokia 8, the flagship smartphone from HMD Global already received the Android 8.0 Oreo build a few months back. In fact, this is the first device to HMD to receive the Oreo build followed by Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 late last year. Now, the smartphone has started receiving the version 8.1 Oreo update. This latest version of Android has started seeding and it claimed to measure a whopping 1.55GB that it needs only a Wi-Fi connection for the download.
The Android 8.1 Oreo update does not bring any major changes expect for some battery related ones. Another perk is the ability to display the Bluetooth battery percentage. The Power and Settings menus have also been redesigned. The smartphone has also received the latest January Android security patch. The hamburger emoji has been fixed too.
You can get the Android 8.1 Oreo beta update on your Nokia 8 smartphone by checking for the OTA update from Settings → System → About Phone → System Update. If you have already enrolled and requested for OTA update, then you can download it in a simple click as usual. It is important that you backup the data stored on your smartphone and charge the battery before proceeding with the same. If you have not joined Nokia Beta Labs, you can do that from here.
After receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update and the December Android security patch, the device received another update earlier this month. This update is said to have brought about performance improvements to the device.
To refresh on its specifications, Nokia 8 bestows a 5.3-inch QHD 1440p IPS display with 2.5D curved glass and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The device employs an octa-core Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage space that can be expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card. There is a dual camera setup at its rear with two 13MP sensors with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, 76.9-degree wide angle lens, dual-tone LED flash and IR range finder. The Nokia 8 has 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, hybrid dual SIM support, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. A 3090mAh battery powers the smartphone from within.
