Nothing Reveals ‘Glyph Matrix’ Light System for Phone 3 Ahead of July 1 Launch
London-based tech brand Nothing is gearing up to launch its third-generation smartphone, Phone 3, on July 1, and it’s coming with a bold design shift.
The company had already confirmed that it had “killed” the Glyph interface—its signature LED strip-based system used in earlier models—and today, via an official post on X, it introduced its replacement: Glyph Matrix.

From Glyph to Glyph Matrix
The original Glyph interface was central to Nothing’s identity. It used arranged LED strips to deliver glanceable notifications for calls, texts, app activity, and even third-party apps like Uber. With Phone 3, that system is being retired.
The new Glyph Matrix promises to carry forward the idea of light as a form of communication, but this time through a dot-matrix layout.
In a post captioned “When light becomes language,” Nothing teased the design, though details remain sparse. It’s unclear whether this matrix will introduce new interactions or simply repackage old ones in a fresh visual format.
Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 Powers the Phone
Performance-wise, the company has already confirmed that Phone 3 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset. This chip sits below Qualcomm's top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
Launching Alongside Headphone 1
The July 1 event will also see the debut of Nothing’s first over-ear headphones, named Headphone 1. The move signals a broader push toward building a connected product ecosystem. Whether the new Glyph Matrix will integrate with Headphone 1 in any meaningful way remains to be seen.
