ZTE's elite brand Nubia today launched two new smartphones in China; Nubia Z17S and Nubia Z17miniS.
While the company was expected to launch the Z17S, the Z17miniS comes as a surprise. As suggested by the name, the Z17miniS has a smaller display and watered-down specs as compared to the Nubia Z17S. Also, the former flaunts a full-screen design, while the latter has pretty thick top and bottom bezels. The placement of the fingerprint scanner also differs on the smartphones.

Nubia Z17S specifications
As mentioned earlier, the Nubia Z17S arrives with a full-screen design with almost non-existent bezels. It has a 5.73-inch display with a screen resolution of 1080×2040 pixels and pixel density of 403ppi. The display is covered by the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top for added protection.
The smartphone is driven by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, clocked at 2.45GHz and topped with Adreno 540 GPU. The Z17S is available in two memory variants; one with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, while the other features 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
The smartphone has four cameras. The rear dual camera setup is comprised of a 12MP primary sensor and a 23MP secondary sensor. Camera features include 1.4-micron pixels, f/1.8 aperture, and 6P optical lens, 2X optical zoom support, 10X digital zoom support and 3D noise reduction.
Furthermore, the camera is equipped with the new NeoVision 7.0 image engine. Its AI Portrait mode offers features like face recognition, edge processing, 3D beauty, level enhancement etc.
Up front, Nubia Z17S features two 5MP cameras with an 80-degrees wide angle lens and f/2.2 aperture. It also supports Bokeh effect, Beauty Mode as well as a Multi-Effect filter.
The device is backed by a 3,100mAh battery with 26W fast charging support and NeoPower 3.0 power saving technology. It also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Connectivity features onboard include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth, USB Type-C port, NFC, and GPS.
Nubia Z17miniS specifications
To begin with, Nubia Z17miniS is a treat for the eyes. With a curved 3D glass back with metal body, the smartphone has a premium look to it. Unlike the Nubia Z17S, this one does feature Nubia's signature red circular capacitive home button on the front. The home button double functions as a fingerprint scanner.
Coming to the specifications, the smartphone sports a 5.2-inch FHD in-cell JDI display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 layer on top.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 chipset powers the device along with Adreno 510 GPU and 6GB RAM. The Nubia Z17miniS offers 64GB of non-expandable native storage capacity.
On the optics front, the smartphone has dual rear and front cameras. The rear dual camera setup consists of two Sony IMX258 13MP sensors with f/2.2 aperture in the monochrome + RGB configuration. There is also a PDAF and a dual-tone LED flash.
The dual front cameras is a combination of a 16MP primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP secondary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and wide-angle lens.
The front cameras are equipped with Nubia's NeoVision 7.0 software and can capture images in Bokeh effect.
The Z17miniS also comes with a 3,200mAh non-removable battery which is claimed to last more than a day's moderate use. For connectivity, the features are dual-band Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 4.1, and a USB Type-C port.
Additionally, the phone is equipped with Smart PA technology for improved audio quality.
Pricing and availability
The 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model of Nubia Z17S carries a price tag of 2,999 Yuan (approx. Rs.29,600) while the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is priced at 3,999 Yuan (approx. Rs. 39,500).
Available in Black Gold and Blue colors, the smartphone will go on sale starting from October 19. Pre-order for the phone is live now.
The Nubia Z17miniS, on the other hand, comes in Black Gold, Deep Blue, and Aegean Blue colors. It will go on sale on October 19 at 1,999 Yuan (approx. Rs. 19,700).
