OnePlus 12 5G to use new Sony-LYTIA Sensor ushering in a “New Future for Mobile Imaging”

As the OnePlus 12 5G launch grows ever so close, new details have emerged about the device's camera sensor. While the company is yet to reveal an official launch date, that announcement could be just around the corner.

OnePlus confirmed that its upcoming flagship will feature a new Sony Lytia dual-layer stacked CMOS sensor. According to an official post on Weibo, the new sensor will offer a major improvement in image quality, particularly in low-light conditions.

OnePlus 12 5G Cameras

A report by Gizmochina notes that the Lytia sensor uses a stacked CMOS design with two layers of transistors and photodiodes, allowing for physically larger photodiodes to capture more light and produce images that are sharper and more detailed.

The OnePlus 12 5G had been previously tipped to feature a 50 MP Sony IMX966 primary sensor paired with a 48 MP ultrawide Sony IMX581 sensor and a 64 MP OmniVision OV64B sensor with 3x optical zoom.

In a prior post, OnePlus President Li Jie Louis shared camera samples taken from the upcoming OnePlus 12 5G. It is worth noting that OnePlus is not the only BBK Electronics brand to partner with Sony's Lytia as Vivo and Oppo will also use the dual-layer stacked sensors in their upcoming flagships.

OnePlus 12 5G Specifications (Expected)

We already know that the OnePlus 12 5G will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The Chinese smartphone maker recently confirmed that the OnePlus 12 5G will feature the first 2K resolution display attaining a DisplayMate A+ rating.
