OnePlus 16 Launch Set for October 12: 185Hz Display, 200MP Camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Confirmed

OnePlus is gearing up to launch its next flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16, in China on October 12. The company has confirmed several gaming-focused features, including a 185Hz display and native 185fps gameplay support in select titles.

The upcoming flagship is expected to build on the gaming capabilities of the OnePlus 15 while introducing significant camera and battery upgrades. With a new gaming kernel, dedicated esports chips and a 200MP primary camera, the OnePlus 16 is shaping up to be a major hardware upgrade.

OnePlus 16 Launch Date and Gaming Features

OnePlus China president Li Jie Louis confirmed the October 12 launch date at the 2026 OnePlus Gaming Conference. The company also revealed that the OnePlus 16 will feature a 185Hz gaming display, surpassing the 165Hz refresh rate of its predecessor. The screen will reportedly support 165Hz during regular system use, with the higher refresh rate reserved for gaming.

The smartphone will support native 185fps gameplay in select titles, including Peace Elite, Arena Breakout, Nizhan: Future and Naruto Mobile. OnePlus has also introduced its next-generation Fengchi Gaming Kernel, designed to optimise resource allocation and help supported games maintain stable frame rates during extended sessions.

Another key highlight is a self-developed three-chip esports system featuring dedicated chips for networking, touch input and display processing. These components are designed to reduce network latency, improve touch responsiveness and enhance visual clarity during gameplay.

The OnePlus 16 will compete with other gaming-focused flagships, including the iQOO 16, which has already been confirmed to feature a 2K 165Hz display.

OnePlus 16 Specifications and Features (Expected)

The OnePlus 16 is confirmed to feature a 200MP primary rear camera. It is also tipped to include a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and 6x lossless zoom, a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP autofocus selfie camera. This would represent a significant change from the OnePlus 15's triple 50MP rear camera system.

Under the hood, the upcoming flagship has reportedly scored over 5.38 million points on AnTuTu in a configuration featuring Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. These specifications have yet to be officially confirmed.

The OnePlus 16 is also expected to pack a massive 9,000mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging support. However, the company has not officially revealed its battery capacity or charging speeds.

For Indian buyers, OnePlus has yet to confirm the smartphone's availability. Recent reports suggest the company could skip the standard OnePlus 16 in India and launch the OnePlus 16R instead. Pricing, availability and the final specifications are expected to become clearer following the China launch.
