OnePlus 3 and 3T starts receiving Android 8.0 Oreo-based OxygenOS Open Beta ROM

OnePlus is offering OxygenOS Open Beta version 25 for the OnePlus 3 and Open Beta version 16 for the OnePlus 3T.

OnePlus has been testing Android 8.0 Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T in a closed beta program for over a month now. However, there is some good news for the device owners. The Chinese company has now made the Android 8.0 OS available for Open beta testers.

So those in the OnePlus 3 and 3T Open Beta program can now download the update and experience Oreo hands on. Android Oreo is available for both devices and comes with a size of 1.4 GB which you can download here. If you are planning to get the beta version then you will probably need to flash the update, following the instructions that are given here.

 

Besides, OnePlus is offering OxygenOS Open Beta version 25 for the OnePlus 3 and Open Beta version 16 for the OnePlus 3T. Apart from the firmware update, the company is also offering September security patch. Oneplus has become the first smartphone company to publicly release any form of Android Oreo for a device. OnePlus is still working on the Android Oreo update for OnePlus 5.

Meanwhile, if you are part of the OpenBeta program you may have received an OTA update. OnePlus in its forum has mentioned that the update is beta software, so the builds are not fully stable and that by installing this update, you accept the potential risks of data loss. While there are ought to be some issues and bugs, the company also assures that the OxygenOS Open Beta 25 can be used as a daily driver.

As per the changelog, the forum mentions that users will get new features like picture-in-picture mode, autofill, smart text selection, quick settings design, notification dots and more. Apart from that, the update also brings a number of bug fixes to the operating system along with better optimizations across the system.

Interestingly, the company also mentioned some known issues with the update such as a slower fingerprint sensor, no shortcut access to Google Photos, and stability issues with NFC and Bluetooth. Performance and compatibility of 3rd party apps will continue to be optimized the company said.

On the other hand, you can also revert back to the last Open Beta N build (OnePlus 3 Open beta 24 or OnePlus 3T Open Beta 15) but you will need to flash the special build again.
