The latest OxygenOS Open Beta 3 update removes the problematic Clipboard app.

Update: After OnePlus 5 and 5T, OnePlus 3 and 3T have also received the OxygenOS Open Beta 3 update. The update removes the controversial Clipboard app that was criticized for sending users' personal data to the Chinese servers, adds gesture controls and fixes many other bugs.

Earlier this month, OnePlus 5 and 5T received the OxygenOS Open Beta 2 update with several new features and bug fixes. Now, the company has started rolling out the Open Beta 3 update to these smartphones those were launched in the last year. Besides the bug fixes and a special SMS categorization functionality, this update is also claimed to remove the Clipboard application.

The Clipboard app has been a problematic one for the users of the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T smartphones. It was claimed to send the personal data of users to the Chinese servers. Soon after the information starting emerging online, the company assured that it will remove the Clipboard app and has done the same.

The Clipboard app was added to the OnePlus 5 and 5T with the previous OxygenOS Open Beta update. It will show a pop-up window whenever users copy text on the device. This window will have easy controls meant for sharing text and there will be an ability to open a web browser preview by highlighting a link. Though the removal of the Clipboard app would make it difficult for users, it will put an end to the issues faced by users regarding their privacy.

Apart from the removal of the Clipboard app, the Open Beta 3 update that is available to all the beta users of the OnePlus 5 and 5T will bring a new phone picker gesture switcher to the smartphones. It is one of the highly requested features by several users of OnePlus smartphones. The phone picker gesture switcher is claimed to let users to choose which way they should slide (upwards or downwards) to answer an incoming call.

Google lets the Android device manufacturers modify the feature and most of them have done the modification. Devices from some brands will let users answer the call on swiping up while devices from some other brands need a downward swipe to answer the call. There are brands that come up with right and left swipes as well.

One feature that is India-specific is called SMS categorization. The messages on the smartphone will be sorted into categories automatically with this feature. Notably, this feature is already seen on Xiaomi MIUI and a few other Android skins as well. This update also brings the CVE-2017-13218 security patch to the CPU.
