OnePlus 5 gets Face Unlock feature with OxygenOS Beta 3 update
The update also includes the Android security patch for December.
Face Unlock is OnePlus 5T's one of the most talked about features. While OnePlus decided to keep the fingerprint scanner (moved to the back), the face scanning technology gained everyone's attention.
Due to the popular demand, the company recently announced that it will bring the Face Unlock feature to the OnePlus 5 through a software update. The confirmation came from a tweet made by OnePlus's co-founder Carl Pei. And last week, OnePlus stated that it will soon release an open beta build of Face Unlock for OnePlus 5 users. Well, the smartphone has now started receiving OxygenOS Beta 3.
As you may have guessed it already, the update brings the much-awaited Face Unlock feature. In addition, the update also includes the Android security patch for December. Other than that, it also comes with usual bug fixes and stability improvements.
Below is the changelog for the beta update:
Recorder:
Added app shortcut on Launcher.
System:
Added Face Unlock;
Optimizations for vibrations;
Fixed connection issue of 5G Wi-Fi;
General bug fixes and improvements;
Updated Android security patch for December.
It should be noted that OnePlus 5 users who are enrolled in the OxygenOS beta program should receive the update via OTA (over the air). While those who are out of the program are needed to manually flash the ROM.
The update will take a while to reach all the OnePlus 5 devices, so the company asks patience for those who are yet to get the new beta. The latest OxygenOS Beta 3 weighs in at just 106MB being a rather small update.
Since the Face Unlock has already made its way to the beta update, it shouldn't be long before the feature becomes available in the stable OxygenOS as well. OnePlus just wants to test the feature first before releasing the final version.
In related news, OnePlus 3 and 3T have started receiving OxygenOS 5.0.1 OTA update. You can check out the new features added by the update here.
