OnePlus Suffers From Yet Another Data Breach
OnePlus has published a new security notification on its Forum. According to the company, certain personal information like name, contact number, email and shipping address may have been exposed to an unauthorized party. However, the company confirms that there is no breach of payment information or account passwords.
The company has confirmed that the breach is now in control and the company has sent out an email for the impacted users regarding the breach. This isn't the first time where the company has received a data breach, where the company faced a similar situation in 2018, where it compromised 40,000 user's credit card information.
The company is sorry about the incident and is currently working with the relevant authorities to learn about the root causes of this unfortunate incident.
What's The Issue?
According to OnePlus, the leaked information might be used to send spam messages and phishing e-mails. There is no definite answer from the company on how it compromised with the data that is very private and can be used to irk the users.
If you have not received an mail from OnePlus, then your data is not breached. If you have received an mail, then your data has been accessed by an unauthorized party. As of now, there is nothing that users with compromised data can do as it has already reached the hands of the party.
What Does This Incident say About OnePlus?
This being a second data breach that the company has suffered, it looks like the company might have some loopholes on how it is storing the user-data. Someone is definitely taking advantage of it to use the very personal data to spam and phishing. The company should definitely improve the security on its servers, especially which stores personal user data.
