Oppo A83 First Impressions

Oppo announced three smartphones under the F5 series late in 2017. These smartphones feature a full-screen design and a display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Now, it looks like the company is all set to expand the portfolio of full-screen design smartphones with another launch in India. Well, the talk is about the Oppo A83 that is awaiting its launch in India. This device was announced in the company's home market China back in December 2017.

We have already come across reports that the Oppo A83 is going to be launched in India on January 17 and there were speculations that it might be priced under Rs. 15,000. Now, a report by PhoneRadar claims that the Oppo A83 will be priced at Rs. 13,990. The report does not end with that as it reveals that the device will go on sale starting from January 20. The availability details of the upcoming Oppo smartphone remain unknown for now though.

Oppo A83 key specs

As the smartphone is already official in China, we know the complete specifications of this smartphone. Similar to the other Oppo smartphones, this one also flaunts a metal unibody design. It bestows a 5.7-inch IPS display with an HD+ screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. The Oppo A83 gets the power from an octa-core 2.5GHz MediaTek Helio P23 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 32GB default storage space that can be expanded further up to 128GB with the help of a microSD card.

In terms of imaging, the Oppo A83 flaunts a 13MP rear camera along with LED flash and an 8MP selfie camera at the front. The battery capacity is 3180mAh and it can last for at least one day on a single charge. Like any other smartphone in the mid-range market segment, this Oppo device will also have 4G VoLTE, dual-SIM support, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, a micro USB port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The highlighted aspects of the Oppo A83 include the full-screen design with 18:9 aspect ratio display as seen above and the Face Unlock feature. Given that there is a full-screen design, you might expect the fingerprint sensor to be moved to the rear of the device. But that's not the case with this smartphone as the company has ditched the fingerprint sensor in favor of the Face Unlock feature that will unlock the smartphone using facial recognition as seen on the Apple iPhone X.

Competition

If the Oppo A83 is priced at Rs. 13,990, it will definitely compete with several other smartphones with a similar pricing such as the Xiaomi Mi A1, Moto G5S Plus, Honor 7X, etc. It will also carry the credits of bringing the Face Unlock to this price range.
