Oppo’s Ultra-Thin Find N5 Teased Ahead of Launch; Geekbench Reveals New 7-Core Snapdragon 8 Elite Chip

After weeks of speculation, Oppo has officially started teasing the Find N5, its next-generation foldable flagship, set to launch in February in China. According to Zhou Yibao, head of the Oppo Find series, the device will be the thinnest foldable phone ever created.

Adding to the intrigue is Qualcomm's new 7-core Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which makes its debut in this foldable flagship. Geekbench listings have revealed key details about the device, giving a glimpse of its performance and hardware.

OPPO Find N5 Officially Teased Ahead of Launch: Check Expected Specs

Design

Oppo's Find N5 is being hailed as a design marvel. Zhou Yibao has revealed that the phone's thickness, when unfolded, is comparable to just four stacked bank cards or two 1 yuan coins. This ultra-slim profile is achieved with a titanium frame, which ensures durability without adding unnecessary bulk.

The focus on thinness doesn't come at the cost of functionality. The Find N5 is said to support stylus input and is rumored to include a substantial 5700mAh battery with fast wired and wireless charging.

Inside the Find N5: The New 7-Core Snapdragon 8 Elite

At the heart of the Find N5 is Qualcomm's 7-core Snapdragon 8 Elite, a variant of its flagship 8-core processor. This chipset introduces an interesting approach to managing production efficiency. As GSMArena suggests (via), these chips likely started as standard 8-core Snapdragon 8 Elite processors. However, if one core didn't meet performance standards, Qualcomm disabled it instead of discarding the entire chip. This repurposing results in a leaner 7-core configuration.

Core Configuration Comparison:

Core Type 8-Core Snapdragon 8 Elite 7-Core Snapdragon 8 Elite
Prime Cores (4.32 GHz) 2 2
Performance Cores (3.53 GHz) 6 5

This smart engineering not only reduces waste but also creates a powerful and efficient processor. Despite the missing core, the 7-core variant retains all the advanced features of its sibling, including the Adreno GPU with ray tracing support, Hexagon DSP for AI workloads, LPDDR5X RAM support, and Quick Charge 5. These capabilities ensure the chip is more than capable of handling modern applications and multitasking.

Impacts of the 7-Core Chip

The Geekbench benchmark for the Oppo Find N5 indicates that the 7-core Snapdragon 8 Elite delivers solid performance. Single-core scores range from 2,948 to 3,083, while multi-core results fall between 8,196 and 8,865. Although these numbers are slightly lower than the 8-core variant, the difference is unlikely to be noticeable for most users.

In everyday tasks like streaming, browsing, and light gaming, the 7-core version is expected to perform seamlessly. It also brings improved efficiency, reducing heat generation and extending battery life-an essential consideration for a device as thin as the Find N5.

Other Specs

The Oppo Find N5 doesn't just focus on looks and performance-it offers a complete package. Other reports state a 50MP periscope telephoto camera and the latest ColorOS 15 based on Android 15.
