Pixel Users Experience Troubling Battery Drain and Overheating Problems, Reports Suggest

|

A number of Pixel users are presently voicing concerns about significant problems with battery drainage and overheating on their devices. The issue was first brought to attention by an Engadget reader, following which several complaints arose in Reddit and Google's support forums.

The reader reported that they have not used their phone for an hour and have been charging it using a standard wireless charger. However, a screenshot from the settings of their Pixel 6 Pro reveals that the Google app is causing significant battery drain in the background.

The reader also mentioned that the phone becomes excessively hot and that they had to revert to a previous version of the app to prevent further battery depletion.

Many Pixel Users Are Suffering From This Issue

After browsing through Reddit and the Google support forums, it is apparent that numerous other Pixel users are encountering the same issue.

A Reddit user shared their experience, stating that both their Pixel 6 Pro and their spouse's Pixel 6 have been overheating and experiencing significant battery drain, even when not in use. The devices are not just warm, but excessively hot, and the user noted a battery depletion of 20% within an hour without any active usage.

The Google App Could Be the Main Culprit

The issue is not exclusive to the Pixel 6 series alone. Users of Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are also reporting similar problems of overheating and battery drain. The primary suspect appears to be a recent update to the Google app.

Many affected users have observed that the Battery Usage menu on their Pixel devices lists the Google app as the main culprit responsible for consuming a significant amount of battery power.

Users who have attempted to seek assistance from Google support regarding this issue have reported limited success.

The troubleshooting steps provided by the support staff have not proven effective in resolving the problem.

Neither reverting to an earlier version of the Google app nor performing a complete factory reset of the phone has yielded a solution to the battery drain and overheating problems.

Pixel phones have encountered their fair share of bugs and issues in the past. However, the positive news is that Google has a track record of addressing and resolving most of these problems.

Therefore, it is highly likely that Google will take the necessary steps to address and resolve the current battery drain and overheating issue as well.
