The much-anticipated Reliance JioPhone, which is set to unleash a digital life for 500 million feature phone users, will open for pre-registration at 5:30 p.m. today. We have got the information from a reliable source in the industry.

You can pre-book the device by paying Rs. 500 via a Jio retailer or the MyJio application. The JioPhone was unveiled at Reliance's 40th Annual General Meeting. It will be available to customers at an effective price of zero, that is effectively free. Customers will only have to pay a fully refundable, one-time security deposit of Rs. 1,500 for every JioPhone in order to avoid potential misuse.

However, you should keep in mind that the JioPhone will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis. So if you want to grab one, you better pre-book the device on August 24, which is tomorrow.

You can pre-book the JioPhone through both online and offline channels. The offline mode comprises of Jio retailers and multi-brand device retailers including the Reliance Digital stores network. While for online pre-booking, you need to use either the MyJio app or the company's own websitejio.com.

As we have mentioned earlier, you can pre-book the JioPhone by paying just Rs. 500, which will be adjusted against the fully refundable, one-time, security deposit at the time of delivery. The remaining Rs. 1000 of the security deposit has to be paid at the time of delivery of the device. To remind you, you will get your money back after using the JioPhone for 3 years (36 months) by returning the used device.

Talking about the phone itself, Reliance JioPhone sports a 2.4-inch QVGA display. The feature phone will be available in two models; one with a Snapdragon 205 processor and other with the Spreadtrum chipset.

It also features an alphanumeric keypad as in any other feature phone and a microSD card slot for expandable storage space. The handset supports voice commands and 22 Indian regional languages.

There is a panic button functionality that will be enabled by long pressing the number 5 on the keypad. In addition, the JioPhone will get the NFC support for digital payments via a future OTA software upgrade.

Furthermore, the JioPhone will come pre-installed with the Jio suite of apps for messaging, entertainment, etc. especially Jio TV which features more than 400 live TV channels as well as JioMusic and JioCinema.

It will even offer support for some of the most used instant messaging and social networking apps.
