Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Processor Announced For Mid-Range Smartphones

Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 processor, which debuts as the brand's latest chipset for mid-range smartphones. The brand claims that the SoC will offer a 50 percent improvement in CPU performance compared to its predecessor.

To quickly recap, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2's predecessor was the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 unveiled last year. If you think the math doesn't add up, you're not wrong. Qualcomm hasn't released a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 processor yet.

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Features

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 processor features a maximum clock speed of 2.91GHz. The company claims the chipset offers 50 percent improved CPU performance and a 2x GPU performance increase compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

Additionally, Qualcomm states that the power efficiency gains of the chipset stand at 13 percent. This improves smartphone performance when it comes to power-hungry functions like gaming and video streaming.

Qualcomm's newest mobile processor comes with Snapdragon Elite Gaming features such as Auto Variable Rate Shading (AVRS). This feature optimizes the image resolution by rendering foreground images in high resolution while keeping a lower resolution for the background.

In addition, the chipset supports Snapdragon Sound Technology to provide lossless audio for streaming. As for imaging, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2's 18-bit triple ISP can support up to 32MP sensors in a triple-camera setup.

Meanwhile, in a single camera setup, it can support up to 200MP cameras. The chipset's ISP is capable of Multi-frame Noise Reduction (MFNR), AI-based face detection, and low-light photography. It also can record up to 4K videos at 60 fps.

As for connectivity, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 includes the Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF system with peak download speeds of up to 4.4Gbps. It supports Dual-SIM Dual Active (DSDA) with support for both 5G and 4G.

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Availability

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 processor will power smartphones manufactured by companies such as Redmi and Realme. Phones equipped with the new chipset are expected to launch later this month.
