Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Launch Timeline Tipped: Check Expected Specs and Phones

Qualcomm's next flagship mobile processor, tentatively called the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, is reportedly set to launch later this year, according to fresh leaks. The chip is positioned as the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which made its debut last October. This time, Qualcomm seems to be aiming directly at the upcoming iPhone 17 series, planning its own big reveal just ahead of Apple's expected launch.

Tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) shared new insights on the potential timeline and specifications for the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, offering a glimpse into what could power the next wave of Android flagships.

Launch Timeline: Lining Up Against Apple

Based on the latest leak, Qualcomm is expected to announce the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 at the end of September, with the first smartphones powered by the chip set to launch in October 2024. This timing suggests Qualcomm is looking to position its flagship chip as a direct competitor to Apple's iPhone 17 lineup, typically unveiled in September.

The Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro are likely candidates to debut this new chipset, continuing Xiaomi's history of being an early adopter of Qualcomm's latest silicon.

Rumored Specifications

The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is shaping up to deliver notable performance gains over its predecessor. Reports suggest the chip's CPU will run at a base frequency of 4.4GHz, up from the 4.32GHz of the previous Elite model. This bump in clock speed is complemented by a second-generation, self-developed CPU architecture, indicating Qualcomm's continued focus on refining its chip design.

One significant improvement is the GPU cache, which is expected to increase from 12MB to 16MB. This upgrade could contribute to a 30% boost in overall performance, particularly in graphics-heavy applications like gaming or video rendering.

The chip will be manufactured using TSMC's third-generation 3nm process, which promises better energy efficiency. While the clock speeds remain consistent with the previous model, the newer fabrication process is said to deliver a 4% performance boost and 9% lower power consumption. These modest yet impactful improvements could translate to smoother multitasking and longer battery life in real-world usage.

Additionally, the Elite 2 integrates the SME instruction set as part of the Arm64 architecture. This addition is designed to enhance multimedia and graphics processing, making the chip more capable of handling high-end gaming and content creation tasks.

Which Brands Could Adopt Snapdragon 8 Elite 2?

Based on Qualcomm's typical partnerships, Xiaomi is expected to be among the first brands to adopt the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 in its upcoming Xiaomi 16 series, which is likely to debut shortly after the chip's official announcement later this year.

Other Android heavyweights, including OnePlus, vivo, iQOO, Realme, Redmi, and Oppo, are also anticipated to integrate the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 into their premium devices. Many of these brands typically launch their flagship phones between late 2025 and early 2026, so it's likely that the Elite 2 will begin appearing in consumer devices within that window.
