Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Could Launch Early With Major Performance Upgrades

Qualcomm is reportedly gearing up to release its next flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, earlier than expected. This new chip is expected to bring significant performance upgrades and make use of cutting-edge manufacturing technology, signaling Qualcomm's commitment to staying ahead in the competitive semiconductor market.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Could Launch Early With Big GPU Boost

Early Launch Could Shake Up Timelines

According to reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm may unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 in early October 2025, a slight shift from its usual schedule. If true, this timeline would give smartphone manufacturers more time to integrate the processor into their devices for the holiday season.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, Qualcomm's current flagship, was launched in late October 2024. Advancing the timeline for its successor could be a strategic move to address growing competition and align with manufacturers' production cycles.

TSMC to Play a Central Role

One of the most intriguing aspects of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is its exclusive reliance on TSMC's third-generation 3nm (N3P) fabrication process. This marks a departure from the second-generation 3nm process (N3E) employed in the production of the current Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC.

The chip giant had previously explored splitting production between TSMC and Samsung, but challenges with yield rates at Samsung's facilities reportedly led the company to go all-in with TSMC for the 8 Elite 2 (via Notebookcheck).

Performance Boosts on the Horizon

The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to offer a 20% performance improvement in both single-core and multi-core tasks compared to the current generation. This follows the 30% CPU performance boost seen with the Snapdragon 8 Elite over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The GPU is also expected to receive a significant upgrade, making the chip a strong contender for high-performance tasks such as gaming, AI-driven applications, and computational photography.
