Realme’s Madhav Sheth Hints At Foldable Phone Launch Soon

With this year's Mobile World Congress coming to a close, it seems like foldable smartphones have been the hot tech trend this year. Samsung, the defacto ruler in this segment, has finally received competition from the likes of Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, and even Tecno. Now, even Realme seems to be making its entry into the segment.

Madhav Sheth Hints Realme Foldable Phones

Realme is planning to test the waters with its first foldable smartphone. Madhav Sheth, Realme VP and President of Realme International asked his followers on Twitter if they would prefer a clamshell flip-type foldable smartphone or a larger book-like foldable smartphone. He hinted that the former would be the Realme Flip, while the latter may be named Realme Fold.

Without divulging any more details, Realme has asked its broad fan base on Twitter if they wish to see foldable smartphones under its moniker. While this does not confirm anything of that sort is coming, it is a clear sign of interest from the brand.

2023 Could Be the Year of Foldables

Realme is a part of the BBK group, which includes Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus. With two of three brands already out with foldable smartphones, the R&D is already in place for Realme to develop its product.

Oppo recently launched the Oppo Find N2 Flip globally, with the India launch scheduled for March 13. It launched the Oppo Find N horizontal foldable smartphone in China last year. Vivo has in the works the Vivo X Fold+, a Galaxy Z Fold4 competitor yet to launch globally.

There have been rumors doing the rounds of Realme working on a foldable smartphone for years, but the brand has been focused primarily on improving the slab phone form factor with features such as hyper-fast charging and quirky camera features.

But now that the foldable smartphone industry is heating up, Realme might not want to miss out on opportunities, prompting the brand to gauge the temperature before taking the plunge.
