Tecno Phantom V Fold Announced: Could Be The Most Affordable Foldable Smartphone In India

Weeks after it first hinted at a foldable smartphone in the offing, Tecno has announced the Tecno Phantom V Fold, its first-ever foldable smartphone. The premium Android smartphone launched at the ongoing MWC 2023.

The Phantom V Fold is said to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z, and one of its major plus points is its affordability. Let's look at all available details of Tecno's first and perhaps the most affordable foldable smartphone.

Tecno Phantom V Fold Specifications, Features

Tecno claims its Phantom V Fold is the world's first left-right foldable smartphone, which means, the Phantom V Fold comes with a folding mechanism that has a reverse snap hinge structure. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, this smartphone doesn't have a gap in its inner display.

The outer and always-exposed 6.42-inch Full HD+ AMOLED LPTO display has a punch-hole design on the front with a resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate.

When unfolded, the Phantom V Fold offers a large 7.85-inch 2K AMOLED LTPO screen. The inner display has a 2000 x 2296 pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. This screen has a punch-hole cut-out as well.

Tecno has embedded a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset inside the Tecno Phantom V Fold. The octa-core, dual 5G SoC is manufactured using the enhanced TSMC 4nm manufacturing node. MediaTek has assured the chipset offers "excellent performance while reducing battery consumption". The Dimensity 9000+ SoC is paired with 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The back of the Tecno Phantom V Fold has a 50MP primary camera with a "super light-sensitive sensor" housed in a large circular camera island. The triple camera setup on the device includes a 50MP telephoto lens that offers 2x zoom, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a dual-LED flash.

The inner display reportedly has a 16MP camera facing the user. Additionally, there's a 32MP camera nestled inside the punch-hole cut out of the always-exposed outer screen.

The Tecno Phantom V Fold has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication. The smartphone packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging. The phone measures 159.4 x 140.4 x 6.9mm when unfolded and weighs 299 grams. The smartphone runs Android 13 OS with a layer of Tecno's HiOS UI.

Tecno Phantom V Fold Price, Availability In India

The Tecno Phantom V Fold will be available in India, but the company hasn't announced the exact date yet. The foldable Android smartphone will be available in black and white colors.

Although Tecno hasn't confirmed the smartphone's price in India, a few reports suggest the Phantom V Fold will cost ₹89,999 (approx. $1,088) for the 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage variant. The model with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage will cost ₹99,999 (approx. $1,209).

Early buyers could purchase the Phantom V's base model for Rs 79,999 (approx. $968) during an early bird sale.
