Realme X2 Pro Kernal Source Code Released

Android source code is considered as a "holy grail" by custom ROM developers. There are only a select number of OEMs that support custom ROM development by letting users unlock the bootloader and releasing the kernel source code of the device so that the developers can create new software that sometimes improves the overall performance of the device.

The company has also updated the bootloader unlocking tool to support the Realme X2 Pro. This means users can now unlock and bootloader and flash third-party ROMs. However, there are certain things that one has to know before unlocking the bootloader.

Unlocking the bootloader, according to the company, will erase the data stored on the device including the multi-media files and the in-display fingerprint sensor will also stop working until the bootloader is re-locked. Besides, it also downgrades the Widevine certifications from L1 to L3, resulting in losing HD streaming on platforms like Prime Video and Netflix.

The company does claim that unlocking the bootloader or installing a custom ROM will not void the warranty. Those who wish to go back to ColorOS have to visit the Realme service center and the software will be reversed for free-of-cost.

What Is Kernal Source Code

Kernal source code is a set of instruction software that lets hardware to interact with the software (Android OS). In simpler words, the kernel source contains the drivers for the hardware used on the smartphone. This will be device-specific and various from model to model.

Ex: the India version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ will have a different kernel source code compared to the US mode as both phones are powered by a different chipset.

Do Not Do It In A Hurry

We would suggest not to unlock bootloader and install custom ROMs, especially on your primary device. Most of the third-party ROMs are known to have some bugs which might affect the basic tasks like making a phone call or sending a text message. Plus, flashing the wrong software could entirely hard-brick your device.
