Redmi Breaks Charging Speed Records With 300W Ultra-Fast Charging
It appears that Chinese smartphone manufacturers are engaged in a charging speed war. While Realme unveiled the GT 3, which can charge at an insane 240 watts, Redmi, Xiaomi's sub-brand, pushed the envelope with its 300W charging capability, demonstrated on a modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition.
Redmi's 300W Tech Charges the Phone in Under 5 Minutes
Android Authority discovered a Weibo post where Redmi demonstrated its 300W charging technology on a modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition. The modified device has a 4,100mAh battery instead of the standard 4,300mAh cell.

Soon enough, the Notebookcheck Additional Content channel uploaded the video of the charging technology in action on YouTube, which you can watch below.
Do keep in mind that the regular Note 12 Discovery Edition already has a ridiculous 210W fast charging capability which can charge the phone in under 9 minutes. This speed in itself is pretty amazing.
During the charging test, the phone drew a sustained power of 290W, with a peak power of 290.6W, just 9.4 units shy of 300W. A 50 percent charge took less than 3 minutes, and a full charge took 4 minutes and 54 seconds.
In comparison, Realme claims its recently launched GT Neo 5 can charge from 0 to 100 in under 10 minutes thanks to its 240W charging technology. Realme's tech isn't a slouch, but Redmi's 300W tech zooms far ahead, making it the fastest-charging tech currently.
The Tech Behind Xiaomi's 300W Charger
Xiaomi calls its charging technology the "300W Immortal Second Charger." It uses Double GaN technology with powerful 15C cells that accumulate more power in less time. The company has also used a hard carbon material, which claims to reduce the thickness of the electrodes by 35%.

For the battery, the company claims to use a "sandwich" structure with a double-layer design for better heat dissipation and use of internal space.
When Will Xiaomi Debut Its 300W Charging Tech?
Xiaomi has neither revealed which device will feature this charging technology nor hinted at a release date. If you're looking for the fastest-charging smartphone, the Realme GT Neo 5 240W and Realme GT 3 are your best bets.
