JioPhone is listed on OLX starting from Rs. 700: Here’s why you shouldn’t buy it
JioPhone listings on third-party platforms should be ignored.
The JioPhone that was launched at an effective price of Rs. 1,500, which is refundable after 36 months of usage based on a few terms and conditions is creating a buzz.
The smart feature phone's shipping debuted in late September and the company assured to deliver six million units of the device those were pre-booked in August before Diwali. Initially, it was said that the JioPhone will be made available in the rural areas before the urban regions. And, the delivery of the feature phone will happen in a phased manner, claimed the company.
While millions of people who have pre-booked the JioPhone paying Rs. 500 are eagerly awaiting to get their hands on the device, a tweet regarding the availability of the phone on the online classified platform OLX has stirred controversy on Twitter. As per a Twitter user @tanwarnavratan, many JioPhone users are selling their device on OLX from Rs. 700 to Rs. 2,499. Some listings of the feature phone show that the device is in an unopened condition with the retail packaging intact.

According to Reliance Jio's terms and conditions and the JioPhone's policies, the buyers of the JioPhone do not have the right to sell, transfer or lease the device in any manner. It is clear that the existing JioPhone customers are not adhering to this policy set by the company and are taking the step to sell the device with the registered Jio numbers.
JioPhone effect: 4G feature phones that will soon shape up the Indian mobile market
The buyers who are interested in these listings on the platform should remember that there are many problems associated with purchasing the JioPhone from third-party sellers. First and foremost, the SIM ownership can be transferred to another person only after submitting identification proof to the service provider. The next point to be remembered is that the Rs. 1,500 refundable amount will be given only on showing proper purchase receipts.
Then, it is prohibited to transfer the JioPhone to anyone else and the company can cease services on the devices got through third-party sellers. The last point to know is that there are several risks and security issues due to misuse of the number.
