Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018) specs revealed by GFXBench listing
After the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018), it looks like Samsung is focusing on revamping the Galaxy J series of smartphones with the Galaxy J8 (2018).
Samsung revamped its Galaxy A series of smartphones in the last month with the launch of the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018). These devices came with promising specifications making them the first premium mid-range phones from Samsung to sport an Infinity Display seen on flagship smartphones, dual front-facing cameras, and support for Gear VR. Now, it looks like the company has shifted its focus to the Galaxy J series smartphones too.
The folks at GalaxyClub has spotted a device with the model number SM-J720F on the GFXBench benchmarking database in several listings. Notably, the US variant of the Galaxy J7 has the model number SM-J727 and the international variants of the device in 2016 and 2017 have the model numbers SM-J710F and SM-J730F. As the model number in the recent listings is SM-J720F, it is unlikely to be a US-only model.
The report points out that it could be the next-generation Galaxy J smartphone that might be dubbed Galaxy J8 (2018) in order to make its name sync with the premium mid-range offerings in the Galaxy A lineup. Besides the model number, the benchmark listing does shed light on the key specifications of the smartphone as well.
Galaxy J8 (2018) hardware specs
The benchmark listings hint that the Galaxy J8 (2018) might bestow a 5.5-inch HD 720p display and employ the new Exynos 7885 SoC from Samsung teamed up with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage space. Notably, it is the same chipset that the newly launched Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) are equipped with. Given that the Galaxy J7 Pro flaunts a FHD 1080p display, it remains unknown why the company would want to downgrade the resolution of its upcoming smartphone.
Dual selfie cameras
On the imaging front, the Galaxy J8 (2018) is listed to feature a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing selfie camera. Given that the previous models in this lineup came with a 13MP front camera, the 8MP setup is likely to be a dual camera module but it remains unclear. Even the Galaxy A8 duo of smartphones have such a dual camera setup at the front.
Android Oreo out-of-the-box
The listing goes on revealing that the Galaxy J8 (2018) will run Android Oreo Samsung-ss Edition ROM. We do not have any details regarding this kind of ROM but we can expect to get more details in the coming days or weeks.
